Wishing You a Happy and Humane New Year

By Harry Rhodes, FACT’s Executive Director

"I have learned new things about livestock raising, silvopasture, and multispecies grazing. During the conference, the question-and-answer sessions helped me to clarify some of my concerns. “

- Georges Ebia, Conference Scholarship Recipient

For our last blog post of 2022, we wanted to share an uplifting story about how your generous support is impacting farmers across the U.S.

When Togo native and recent NC transplant, Georges Ebia, applied for a conference scholarship to attend the Carolina Farm Stewardship’s (CFSA’s) 37th Sustainable Ag Conference in Durham, NC, we were happy to help.

Established in 2015, FACT’s conference scholarship program has become one of our flagship farmer services. Each year we help farmers attend educational conferences, workshops, and online classes, helping pasture-based livestock farmers learn and grow.

Georges in Togo

Georges, while new to the US, isn’t new to farming. Growing up in West Africa, he was surrounded by farms and farmers who had a strong sense of community but very little access to information. The continued educational opportunities offered through agricultural conferences are invaluable for niche farmers who don’t necessarily have the support they need locally.

Georges was impressed and reported to have learned more than he could’ve hoped from this longstanding conference. He credits CFSA for introducing him to FACT and hopes to continue utilizing our other services as he realizes his dream of starting a goat farm in NC, something FACT’s Humane Farming team looks forward to helping make a reality.

Supporters help new and beginning farmers like Georges start and grow their farms by providing humane farming grants, scholarships to conferences, short courses, and workshops that support the humane treatment of food animals.

Support farmers like Georges by making a donation to FACT's 2022 Holiday Appeal today!

Thank you and we wish you all a good, healthy, and meaningful New Year.
